A few days ago we made a recipe from Mom Ganzevoort involving re-baked Italian bread, swiss cheese, butter, mustard, and onions. (For those of you who haven't tried it, it's much better than it sounds.) Brian asked what we were making, and James answered, "Grandma's funky bread." Without missing a beat Brian said, "Oh...monkey bread!"
We were laughing too hard to correct him, so the name has become official. Later, while Brian was eating his monkey bread, he decided to pick off the onions because, as he said, "I don't like the monkey skin."
